Observation details
continuing; recorded Location: Park at the East Bear Trailhead and walk UP the road about 100 yards until you are even with a dirt embankment on your right. Details: The bird made a total of four loud "WHIP" notes between 8:35 and 8:45pm from up on top of this embankment. As it got darker the bird moved up the road about another 100 yards, but on the other side of the creek and began "singing" the "Whip-PO-or-Will" song many times (recordings obtained). You do NOT need to walk up the road past the bridge. After about 15 minutes it move back to the original location and gave both vocalizations. At NO time were recordings played to this bird. If present, it will call on its own. We left before the sky was completely BLACK.
