Observation details
Seen facing east from Least Tern sign. Flying quickly and directly to the NW for the duration of the sighting, until it disappeared behind the ridge of yellow flowers NW of the Least Tern sign. Sighting was brief, but the initial view was pretty good, showing a distinctive dark-bodied, pale-winged tern, smaller than Forster's, bigger than Least, with graceful, buoyant flight. Within a few seconds, the bird was a couple hundred yards distant to the NW, but I managed to get some very distant, blurry flight photos. It was late afternoon and there was a consistent moderate wind blowing in from the west, probably 10-15 mph or so.
