Observation details
First observation at 0821. 1 counted on property. 1 individual(s) singing. Singing, rather intermittently, in native grassland habitat north of the constructed wetland, reach 2. Still singing on the return, and doing so more consistently; I diverged from the survey route to track it down. Got a decent recording of the song and got fairly close to the bird but never was able to see it - apparently singing from down within the grasses. Habitat in this area was an alluvial fan from the Scratchgravel Hills on roughly a 4% south slope, dominated by Agropyron spicatum and Stipa comata with patches of invading Bromus inermis. No cheatgrass invasion in this area. Other common plants included Gutierrezia sarothrae, Artemisia frigida, A. campestris, A. dracunculus, Poa secunda, Tragopogon dubius, Agropryon smithii, Opuntia polyacantha, Phlox hoodii, and Bouteloua gracilis. Other singers from grassland in this area were VESP, WEME, and HOLA. Detections (number 15-minute intervals in which the species was detected): 5 on property.
