Media notes
Alternate-plumaged Franklin's Gull flying over quite high and headed NW (highly-cropped picture). Away from Lake Ontario, this was a huge surprise! First eBird record for York Region, Ontario.
Observation details
First eBird record for this species in York Region! Flyover alternate-plumage bird. Dark hood, black primary tips with white bordering the black. Flew over quite high heading NW. Originally wrote it off as a Bonaparte’s Gull (which, in itself, is a good bird at this inland location), but realized my error later in the day as something was “off”. I only checked my couple of distant pics the next morning and sure enough - FRGU!
