https://groups.google.com/g/nf.birds/c/pnksR4mfs7Q/m/qbNPwu-0YjAJ A 1244.8 km drive for a water-logged Brown Pelican perched on rusty heap of scrap iron sheltering from the rain on the lee side of an abandon dry docked boat - was it worth it? You bet ya, especially because it keeps me two ahead of Linegar on the NF list race. It looked too wet for a water bird and was occ. shivering a slightly drooped left wing. It hopped over rocks with out stretched wings when an ordinary pelican would fly to escape an approaching photographer with a lens too small for bird photography. A hopeful sign was preening as we departed. The great guys working at the fish plant said it was tame and they were feeding it fish scraps by hand. Hopefully when the rain stops it will dry off and return to a normal pelican-style life. You see many Brown Pelicans on TV and during vacations to the south (if you're lucky to go on such), but seeing one in Newfoundland is a remarkable event. BM & Doug Phalen
