Observation details
I heard the bird first, which stopped me in my tracks. I listened to it vocalize for several minutes and am certain it was a Hammond's. It took me about 20 minutes to get my bins on it and another 30 after that to obtain a few photos. It was vocalizing the entire time, repeating the first note of its song. Lower pitched and slower than Dusky to me. Twice in that time it vocalized several sharp call notes in a row, almost exactly as the audio in the Sibley app, which should clinch the ID. Hammond's is a definite breeder in this drainage and there are usually 3-5 pairs. I'm very familiar with their vocalizations.
