Observation details
Like most of the urban BETH sightings, I've always been skeptical of CAKI sightings in the Phoenix area that don't have comments, not that it is a terribly difficult ID but people often see what they want to see. Its the right time of year and I finally saw one moving through. Its call (pip-breer) alerted me to its presence then I watched it for a while. Darker grey head contrasting the white cheek, I think I saw a vague white tip to its tail. It flew up an incredible distance, making me think it was flying away, to catch what looked like a Pontia butterfly before flying back to return to its original perch. Pestered a kestrel a few times. First valley CAKI sighting for me.
