Bold white eye streak over eye. Whitish at base of bill. Estimated length 8". Call (1 time coming in) loud "kreet". Eye black, apparently set in black or large. Both eye lines visible from behind (barely). Back, top of head, neck, breast, rump, all soft gray - only back of hint of brown if any. Wings gray w. darker streaks, fine. Gray *not* scaled, streaked - at moments had an almost purple wash to breast. Belly, flank, undertail coverts white. Tail has at least some black in it. Observed 4/22/86 1:02-1:45 PM. Good light - 100 ft - 7x35 binoculars. [From notebook:] 1 bird in winter plumage - apparently entering pre-nuptual molt - at Highline. Latilong 1st - rare bird report.
