Media notes

Calls, initially by two adult birds that were circling overhead calling about 100 meters above the ground as they circled over a small hill along the road just short of a swampy area where the road backed up a small stream amid rather scrubby forest. Later one of these same birds perched 100 meters away and at the very top a dead snag on the hillside, while the other bird flew overhead. In the third part of the recording, this bird called a few times from the same perch, but it then took flight and began circling, but at this point, the Elanoides began calling again and I switched to it. 3.5 kilometers beyond the bridge over the Río Grande. [8° 06’ 43.0” N, 61° 39‘ 50.0” W, 283 meters]. Although these birds were view most of the time, it was nonetheless difficult to keep on them and to set the recording levels because they were moving about relatively rapidly. These birds may have been prompted to call by the presence of the pair of Elanoides forficatus in the immediate vicinity. Partly cloudy, breezy, 82° F. Equipment Notes: Sennheiser powered using phantom power and with filter in flat position and attenuator off for all recordings. Nagra input set at 2 mV / Pa and low-pass filter in flat position unless noted otherwise.
