Media notes
The bird was unseen at this time but probably about 20 meters away and 18 meters above the ground in a grove of denser trees amid what was generally relatively scrubby terra firme forest located out the old logging road where we had been working 6.9 km. beyond the bridge over the Río Grande. [08° 06’ 22.9” N, 61° 38’ 12.7” W, 283 m]. When we saw this bird shortly before I recorded the first part of this cut, it was perched on a horizontal branch about half the way up the trees (the bird was probably in the same place at this time). This recording was made soon after dusk after we cut a trail into the forest and then used playback of song from the Manaus Master project. This bird was silent before playback, but in response to playback it approached and circled over us in a fluttering flight several times before once landing in the open. It called repeatedly after playback (often when in flight), but it never sang this evening and it never even called while we had in view. Complicating things was that the bird typically approached soon after playback and began calling, but it did not remain close for long. It moved back and called only infrequently, so it was 50-60 meters away and apparently in the mid-levels for much of this recording. This is the same bird previously recorded at the same site in files #BOL293-BOL301. A near full moon was low in the eastern sky (this was the day after the full moon). there was a roughly 50% cloud cover and not much moonlight at the conclusion of this recording, intermittently breezy, low 80s. Equipment Notes: Sennheiser powered using phantom power and with filter in flat position and attenuator off for all recordings. Nagra input set at 2 mV / Pa and low-pass filter in flat position unless noted otherwise.
