This bird began today with a long call at 5:39:04 and a song at 5:41:24, after which I began recording just before 5:42:42 after missing three songs. The unseen bird was 25-30 meters up overhead in the canopy of the huge tree with the split trunk in roughly the center of the area were this bird typically sang. The bird also seemed to be moving just enough that I had to shift positions periodically to keep it on axis (and moving to an adjacent tree about halfway through the second part of this recording). The bird then moved to a new tree about 20 meters the east near the end of the second part of this recording (after which I turned the recorder off to change memory cards). The third part of this recording began just before 6:33:49 after I missed about five songs (and a long call by the bird in the background, which resulted in this bird changing its songs). the bird switched trees again about halfway through the third part of this recording, but again it did not go very far, apparently returning to the tree where it sang from just prior to its moving at the end of the second part of the recording. The bird was moving more but singing somewhat less in the third part of this recording. I further suspect that through most of the third part of this recording the unseen bird was on some of the large, lateral branches of the very large tree where it often sang. Because these branches were over at the canopy of the smaller trees, it appeared to the bird was moving back-and-forth among trees, but this may not have been the case. as far as I could determine, at this time the bird was about 30-35 meters up overhead. confusing things somewhat at first was that Bird #1 began singing somewhat earlier today that it had in previous days and it was somewhat closer than usual. Partly cloudy with a few low clouds initially but mostly cloudy with only a few patches of blue sky overhead later on, calm, 77° F. It was still essentially dark when I began recording. ML: Subject identified by recordist as Xiphorhynchus guttatus polystictus but assigned to Xiphorhynchus guttatus [guttatus Group] to conform to eBird Taxonomy (v. 2016). -[Brad Walker 12Aug2016].
