Observation details
First observation at 0819. 5 counted on property. First-ever sighting here! Spotted one male on the second full-sized pond from the east in reach 3, swimming among flooded alders. He swam out of sight and I pulled my camera out to try to obtain a photo, but he flushed - along with 4 other wigeons - perhaps from the eastern pond as well as the one where I saw the male. They flushed with 'wu-WEE-woo' calls and circled several times, descending upstream as if to land again. At 0904, a group of about 20 MALL and AMWI flushed in a single flock from the eastern-most shallow standing water pond in the constructed wetland. I heard 'wu-WEE-woo' calls several times before they flushed. Super wary group - flushed when I was still at least 100 m away and on the far side of the creek. On the return, I flushed three AMWI in reach 3 from the same pond where I first saw the male, along with 10 MALL. Detections (number 15-minute intervals in which the species was detected): 5 on property.
