Observation details
life bird view, from down inside the little wooded park. Distinguished from Great-Crested today by pale yellow belly and very impressive heavy bill and weak pale edges on tertials. Drabber than GC, both in terms of its rufous areas and its drab yellow belly. Today I did not get a good feeling for the sound...I heard it calling but the nearby Kiskadee vocalizations were confusing the sounds. However, two days ago at a different location in Refugio, I could hear a very definitive whip call which is quite different from any Great-Crested sounds.
