Observation details
At dusk, a long-winged, medium-large sized bird flew from thick Pine trees to land in the middle a grassland. It then flew low circling the field and roadside, including a sweep-by less than 10m away. At first it was assumed to be a Short-eared owl but despite the dim light it was noted while it sat in the field, it seemed to have relatively long "ear" tufts and a surprised expression. Also it had darker plumage than would be expected of a Short-eared Owl. A very grainy photo confirmed LEOW
