Observation details
Found by Craig Anderson and Katie Bond out the south beach on the bay side at 11:00. Craig texted me and since Blake and I were in the park, we decided to go out. We parked at the west end of the South Point Trail. We walked 3 kilometres out the trail to the lake, then exactly 3 kilometres along the south beach towards Erieau. It took us an hour and a half to get there and it's not an easy walk, what with cutting through the patches of phrag and vegetation. It was feeding on a large pile of vegetation exactly where Craig and Katie found it 2 hours earlier - a bit past where the break was last year. There are a couple of large mounds of this vegetation nearby and I expect it'll be around a while. One of my photos shows a small mussel-type thing in its mouth. It seemed to be getting a lot of food when it was probing. The bird is moulting a bit but still resembles a winter bird for the most part. I'm thinking it may have overwintered in the area but who knows? Lots of photos.
