Observation details
Continuing bird found earlier by Luke Tiller. Skulky sparrow mostly down in the grass running like a mouse, but occasionally moving up into view. Face mostly orange with wide orange supercilium, black postocular stripe, and round gray auricular patch. Median crown stripe yellowish near bill and becoming bright white along until nape, and surrounded by black lateral crown stripes. Finely streaked purplish nape (unlike Nelson's). Boldly striped back. Orange breast and flanks, with bold black streaking on flanks. Breast essentially unstreaked (unlike Sibley guide illustration, which shows bold streaks extending onto breast); maybe 1st year bird? Photos.
