Observation details
The bird was seen well with spotting scope at close range, it was with Blue-winged Teal, similar in size and shape, but bill slightly longer, color was unmistakable deep cinnamon all over, with light blue shoulder-patches visible when it stretched it's wings. First spotted by Leo Schrock, it was also seen by AlanTroyer, Chad Beachy, as well as myself, and later in the evening by Clayton Ferrell. Viewing conditions were not very good with continuous light rain, but the bird was close enough for decent looks anyway. (150 ft.) Nobody in the group had a camera, so we drove to Waverly and bought one, then returned to the WTP and got diagnostic shots in spite of the rain. There was no reason to suspect this bird to have been an escape , with apparent wild behavior, associated with migrating Blue-winged Teal, and good timing at the peak of the expected date range for this species. Victor Stoll and Adam Beachy returned to the site the following day, April 30th, 2013, but the birds had moved on, including most of the Blue-winged Teal. This report was completed on 6-12-16 by Ruben Stoll for submitting to the TBRC.
