Adult Franklin's Gull
Observation details
I arrived 9:15 and first bird I looked at was this Franklin's Gull! It's facial half-hood, small size told me it was my target, even without binoculars. It flew from near waters edge out onto parking lot to join the Ring-billed Gull flock. Excellent light. I obtained photos, while simultaneously texting local birders and posting it to CT Birds. P. Comins, C. O'Keefe, & D. Moore arrived in time to see it. Then a guy driving a pickup truck drove right through the gull flock, flushing the FRGU high and to the west. My second CT record. Today proved to be a MAJOR incursion of this species in the northeast from MA to NJ, at least.
