Observation details
First for NWT life list! I expected to get my first in Fort Smith, but it appeared the airport birds had migrated already and I didn’t expect to record one overhead! I didn’t recognize it right away. Heard the bewildering call, something like a series of 4 mellow whistled ‘pips’. I succeeded in taking a phone recording where this is audible. I fortunately got to see the bird, but my identification is based on the recording. What I noted was a shorebird with large projections, not seeming front heavy like most shorebirds-reminiscent of a killdeer somewhat. Similar size to GRYE but without a long bill. I didn’t get to enjoy or note the plumage features, but the silhouette and the recording will do well.
