With African Black Oystercatcher on the left
Observation details
This bird apparently on the local hot line, as at least two twitchers rushed into the hide during the time that we sat watching the tide go out. We found this bird after being in the hide for a while and finding only African Black Oystercatchers. Suddenly one of the sitting "Black" oystercatcher rose up and I saw white on the underparts! White went up to shoulders and stopped but also a white "necklace" above the broad black upper breast bar that connected to the black upperparts. Legs were a bit shorter than surrounding Black Oystercatchers and were pinker, less bright red. Shorter legs made bird appear shorter overall than surrounding oystercatchers. Very, very cool.
