Observation details
This hawk was circling over dry Pond-5 (basin in SE corner of site). // Mostly black, the young Zone-tail is similar in underwing coloration to the Turkey Vulture. Flight feathers are barred on the hawk. The underside of the juvenile’s tail has a darkish tip, and has thin, indistinct bands on grayish white. This is unlike the adult which sports heavy banding. Topside, the young Zone-tail is dark. It has a pale yellow cere (base of bill), and dark eyes.
