Observation details
As far as birds go, this was the highlight for me; an absolutely perfect Long Tail!! We were heading along when one of the guides asked me what I thought of what he suspected to be a Soft Plumaged Petrel, but one bounding along low exactly like a Tern!! One look at this bird made my heart miss a beat; it was so smudgy black below with a white belly, and the small, thick Bill was held so downwards, that I really thought it was a mega Petrel, probably Atlantic!! But then... the upper parts revealed the truth; they were immaculately blue-grey, with very dark contrasting primaries and a white, scalloped rump... it was so small, it’s bouncing flight so Tern like and it’s wings so free of wingflashes that it was absolutely clearly a Long Tailed Jaeger, a lifer for both myself several of the new friends I made on the trip!!
