Observation details
this bird confused me because I initially thought it was a pure yellow-bellied adult male until two other birders came over and thought it was a red-naped. We discussed it a little going back and forth pointing out characteristics that fit both species but I had to leave before deciding on a hybrid together which I did later. I will upload photos showing heavily barred back and complete black border around red throat consistent with yellow-bellied sapsucker yet red nape consistent with red-naped sapsucker. a yellow spot visible in one photo but that can appear in red-naped as well. wasn’t able to stay long enough to see if it would move around for a belly shot. In the right-most pine tree closest to the picnic tables behind the tennis court
