Observation details
Dark gull-like bird was observed harassing a Royal Tern, then steadily approached our boat, eventually flying directly aside and across our bow. Appeared to be an adult light-morph jaeger, with very dark upperparts, mostly pale underparts except for a dusky breast band, a pale neck and nape, and a small dark cap. Body was heavy but not extremely so, and central tail feathers were tapered into long, pointed streamers (ruling out adult Pomarine Jaeger). At least 7 primary shafts appeared white from above, ruling out adult Long-tailed Jaeger. From underneath, bases of primaries were obviously pale, forming a pale patch.
