Media notes
Australian Shoveler males competing to perch on a log. The Australian Shoveler (Spatula rhynchotis) is a shy duck and is usually difficult to approach. One male Australian Shoveler was perching on a partly submerged log in Lake Monger near Perth when a second male approached. The perching male entered the water and swam off while the successful male climbed on to the perch for a short while then swam off again. Also visible in this clip is a female Australian Shoveler and a non-breeding Australasian Grebe. Elevation: 13 m. Date added to IBC: June 24, 2018.
