Observation details
*very rare - one individual in basic plumage, originally swimming within 300 meters of land, then flying north a few hundred meters to join a feeding flock of loons, gulls, and razorbills; ID by dark upperparts cleanly separated from white underparts (division on neck was a smooth line along the side of the neck); hindneck clearly gray, paler than blackish sides of neck and back; dark chin strap obvious; contours of crown and hindneck smooth and cobra-like; small, pointed bill relative to nearby Common Loons Doug's photos of the bird on the water: From Pacific Loon (NY) From Pacific Loon (NY) From Pacific Loon (NY) Tom's Photos in flight:
