NOTES: MEYER ISLET IS 1 MI. OFF RAOUL IS.; 403 FT. TALL; 30 A. A LITTLE AFTER NOON EACH DAY THESE BIRDS COMMENCED SOARING IN THE CHASM SEPARATING N. AND S. MEYER ISLETS IN WHOSE CLIFF FACES THEY WERE PREPARING TO NEST. FROM 6 TO 12 BIRDS WOULD GATHER FOR THESE SOARING FLIGHTS. AT TIMES A BIRD WOULD LOWER ITS TAIL TO NEARLY A VERTICAL POSITION THEN FLAP ITS WINGS HEAVILY AND REMAIN ALMOST STATIONARY IN THE AIR.
