Observation details
1:00 PM Demain A. Ebert & I were hiking a narrow trail in the upland bench area of Glass Beach. I was in the lead and a Yellow Rail flushed at my feet, flying up within arms reach in front of me at about waist height. It flew about 10 feet and dropped into the edge of a willow patch. I immediately wrote notes and drew a picture BEFORE looking at reference material. I had no doubt as the the ID of this bird from the size, shape, round wings, and checkerboard wing pattern with a white trailing edge on the secondaries and onto the primaries. Observed between 12:40 and 12:55 PM but for only about 2 seconds.
