Observation details
Classic early winter first year bird. Mottled and barred upperparts indicative of immature bird; extremely dull facial pattern. No red on nape, only red visible was a little in throat and in crown. Minor yellow visible on breast. Among North American sapsucker sp. only YBSA retains immature plumage well into and often through winter. Photos to come.
