Media notes
Rock Pigeon calls and flight sound from birds in a large flock in a suburban Auckland park, fine summer afternoon 21/12/19
Observation details
A flock foraging on a mown grass lawn, under trees, on an asphalt footpath and in a road gutter, walking and pecking at fragments of bread. Sometimes a single bird or small group within the flock would call for a few minutes. A single bird in the flock stood, arched its neck and raised feathers, which I interpreted as courtship behaviour. The birds formed a dense, restless mass with looser groups peripherally and a few distant from the rest. The mass would occasionally fly a short distance and single birds intermittently flew in or away.
