Observation details
Heard(s) and audio recorded. I suggest using headphones or earphones to hear the boom calls when playing the files recorded. Recorded initially at 07:25hrs. Elevation: ca. 1400m. The bird was not seen. I presume it was a single individual, it seemed that the bird was moving down the slope from where we were standing (possibly foraging), after the bird stopped vocalizing, we walked down the slope and found short palm trees called “Tawa” by the locals, and a few fruits on the leaf litter that could belong to that type of palm tree. It was recorded using a cellphone only (iPhone SE) with an app called Recorder Plus, my distance from the bird was about 15m (?) nevertheless it is hard to tell due to the nature of the vocalization, the background noise is high. The vocalization consists of boom calls, specially it seems to consist of 4 notes, the first note is short and the second one is increasing, the third one decreases and then it ends with a higher volume boom sound comparing it to the previous three given notes, the first three notes seem to be somehow one single note or with very minimal pause between them. Something like umm-Mmm-um-UM. But it also has a mixture of rhythms and combinations. 1st file (MEDIA NOTES: LowPassFilter): This file has been edited thanks to Andre Moncrieff, he has used a low pass filter of 1600hz and also has a cut at the last part of the file due to too much static noise. 2nd file (MEDIA NOTES: originalNormalized): This is the “raw” file, the original recording without any edition.
