Observation details
Juvenile. It was smaller than a typical Cooper's, had a tail that looks square when spread, and was hiding in the low thickets where sparrows were hanging out by the trails. Bill S also pointed out that the course streaking on the breast and narrow white tip on the tail suggest a SS hawk. It darted out suddenly and made a small loop before leaving the scene.
