Observation details
Originally seen last night by Peter Yorg. Refound simultaneously today by Shelley and Sue. I arrived on the scene moments later. At least two. Likely three although the third bird seemed lighter than the other two and I never got good looks at the lighter bird’s legs. On the sandspit. Although far, both the morning lighting and lack of heat shimmer made for good viewing from the end of the marina on sidewalk in front of tower with a good scope. Dark streaks on chest, and dark back. Yellow/orange legs and bill - coloration was viewed several times especially when one was perched high on a sand ridge and the other time when the other one walked in front of a adult herring gull so the view was with a white background. Stayed close to water’s edge most of the time. Disappeared for a while when all the birds on the spit were flushed. Got photos and video, but best views were with scope. ***NOTE Taking photos with the new iPhone 11 through a scope sucks. There are 3 lenses and if you try to zoom it switches lenses (sometimes on its own) so you can really only digiscope without zooming. I would not recommend the new iPhone 11 to anyone who wants to use it for scope pics.
