Observation details
Continuing; first state record. When I walked up at 7:05am the bird was already vocalizing extensively back in the woods, but I couldn’t locate it. Eventually it flew in behind me and surprised me at eye level on the edge of the trail before going into the treetops and hover-gleaning poison ivy berries while continuously giving its distinctive sputtering twittery call that readily separates it from the similar Couch’s Kingbird. Solid yellow underparts all the way up the breast, greenish back, gray head with slightly darker face, whitish edging to the wing coverts, tertials, and secondaries. It has a honking huge bill that also leans heavily in favor of Tropical. I obtained some recordings and will upload them as soon as I’m able.
