Observation details
This bird was west of the west pier, about 150 yards further to the north than the end of the pier. Did not see the bird until about 4:00, not the best of light. A rather dark bird, breast lighter than body, neck, and head. Rather long dark bill, perhaps a bit lighter at the end. What stood out on the head was an area lighter than the rest of the head a bit below the crown. This lightness was above the eye, that extended for a short distance toward the back of the head. Some lightness in the Axillaries. Saw the bird dive a number of times and did not see any other white on the bird. Appearance is similar to a photo I took of a Common Eider in Maine a number of years ago https://www.flickr.com/photos/66738724@N04/23205444754/in/album-72157651223893855/. Distant photo. Second opinions always welcomed.
