Observation details
Eagles of all ages are congregating around the salmon run on the South Thompson River. The river banks are strewn with spawned fish. Hundreds of eagles are at the River now, but this spot has an exceptionally high density. The eagles may be attracted to this site for the clumps of mature cottonwood, which they like to perch on. Cottonwoods are more extensive along the banks here than most of the river, as much of the River's edge has been cleared of trees. Also this stretch of River has large areas of exposed gravel bars, many mid-stream, which the eagles use when they feed.
