Observation details

*Rare* Continuing sighting at known location, intially alarmed us when it was making its "pip" "pip" "pip" like call given after short intervals, upon further inspection we noted that this bird had a olive grayish head, little if any eyering present, orange colored lower mandible and a diagnostic white throat. We eliminated similar species like Willow Flycatcher due to call, Acadian Flycatcher was eliminated due to the lack of the olive greenish head, lack of eyering, and lacked winged projections, call also strengthened elimination, Least Flycatcher was eleiminated due to call, lack of the diagnostic eyering and wrong behaviour. After eliminating all these species we comfortably ID these birds as a Alder Flycatchers, interestingly we observed that 3 individuals interacting together, all the steps mentioned above were used to ID these individuals. Photos and recording obtained
