Media notes
What I believe is the plover call can be heard at least twice in this recording: once about 1 second into the recording simultaneous with the end of the first Killdeer call, and another time softer at about 9.5 seconds into the recording.
Observation details
Plover smaller than Black-bellied, with small bill. On south side of Duckbill Pond. Frequently chased around by Black-bellied Plover; the two flew around several times before returning to the flock. Primaries looked long and tertials short, with 4 primary tips beyond tertials, pointing towards American Golden-Plover. Also it seemed more gray and white on the face rather than golden, and with a prominent supercilium, also pointing to American. When most of flock spooked, it flew with Killdeer, eventually heading south. As it flew overhead, I took out my phone and (barely) recorded calls that I think came from the plover. Unfortunately I don't get a chance to hear calls of either species very often. The calls I recorded seem to match the Sibley app's ko-wit flight call of American, and some calls on Xeno-canto (like XC237760) of American, but also are very similar to some calls on Xeno-canto (like XC341300) of Pacific. Update Oct 13 2019: Several experts support ID as American, based on coloration, structure, and call note. Thanks to KG, CM, LB.
