Media notes
Third recordist: Dr. M. Soper A moaning sound with rising inflection often followed by a low growl. The bird sat in its burrow 2-3 feet underground. The burrow was low on the western hillside of the islet just above the boat harbor. The bird called loudly and at one point fluttered its wings. At another point, the voices of Sooty Terns could be heard as they flew overhead. Meyer Islet is heavily populated with Procellariids, compared to neighboring Raoul (about one mile away) which has only remnant breeders de to a predatory feral cat population.
