Observation details
Apparent 1cy bird found originally by beach visitor John. The bird was upside-down in the wet sand along the edge of the tide line, very weak, cold and struggling. Initially the bird looked large for a BRTE when wet and covered in wet sand. The bird was taken to the ARK rehabilitation facility, but was in very poor condition and died within an hour despite administering fluids and providing heat support. The deceased specimen was cleaned up to allow for better documentation of plumage, photographed and measured. Wingspan was 30.0" exactly. Photo of the live bird taken during the rescue is attached. Several photos of the deceased specimen are also obtained but not posted here due to eBird's policy of no dead bird images, they are however available. The specimen will be transferred to the TAMU collection. Bird was rescued by ARK employee Andrew Orgill, documentation photos by A. Orgill
