Observation details
It was foraging/roosting on the Rio Grande with Snowy Egrets at approximately 35º 03' 27.8" N, -106º 39' 31" W. It was at the south end of a very large sandbar. The closest place to park is a lot off 2nd Street, just south of the baseball diamonds, that's next to a bridge over the drains. Look for homemade signs that say "2315". You can walk out almost straight towards it from the parking lot, and then walk along the river trail north or south to openings along the river. You can also get to the river trail by walking north along the levee road about 200 yards to a cement lined drain and following the drain to the trail along the river. In most of the area here, it's difficult to see the river because of all the vegetation along the river's edge. I didn't see it until I walked out on a sandbar in the river.
