Observation details
Originally heard it far to the east before Nick eventually located it high in the sky above us and slightly to the north of us while it called approximately every 5-10 seconds. None of us knew what it was at first, but we knew it was not a regular Oregon shorebird species. Instead of looking at the bird through my binocs or taking pictures, I recorded the bird before I could even see it and continued to record until it was quite a ways away so I could only tell it was a yellowlegs size shorebird given the distance between me and it. The recording seemed to capture the call well and fits the flight call of Upland Sandpiper nicely. It may be worth checking the landfill or fields on the south end of Sauvie. See recording.
