Observation details
Seen at a distance for 5-6 minutes, except for one brief pass during which it got as close as maybe 200 feet. (I was about halfway between Marr Point and where the creek meets the northernmost part of the pond.) Medium-sized tern with long, gray wings and orangish bill and legs. Looked to be an immature bird, as it was lacking the full black cap, and there was a faint brownish color to the crown and mantle. It also appeared to have dark carpal bars. After the brief encounter (which allowed me to take the single, overexposed, out-of-focus photograph you see below), it flew southwest toward the center of the pond and out of sight.
