Observation details
3 speckled oriole eggs and 2 slightly larger whitish eggs of Bronzed Cowbird inside. Nest was a grassy hammock between two large leaves of an ornamental plant in the lodge garden. Both oriole parents seen visiting the nest. Students learned that the Bronzed Cowbird is a brood parasite which lays its eggs on other birds’ nests, and that human alteration of habitats is helping cowbirds expand their range and affect breeding of forest birds.
