Media notes
Recording Time: 6:48:00 PM (UTC -5). Temperature: 22 C. Habitat: Creek Edge, Deciduous Forest, Scrub Forest. Behavior and other notes: Immediately before recording started, a Common Raven with something in its beak flew across the canyon and landed on the cliff face in an area that was hidden from view. From the vocalizations that followed, I would judge that a parent bird carried food to young in the nest. Specific Location: Latitude 29.81860402, Longitude -99.57101344, Elevation 539 m. Lost Maples State Natural Area, Maple Trail. 8.2 km north northwest (bearing 348.9) from Vanderpool, TX. ID'd by Sight & Sound; ID confidence 100%.
Observation details
I believe that there is a nest in the cliffs in this area. I saw a bird carrying something into the cliff face and then heard and recorded some period of intense vocalization. Next day, saw a bird in a niche in the cliff with some apparent sticks. Sight line to the nest area is not good, so I could not be certain what I was seeing.
