Media notes
one of numerous pictures i took but this one shows the entire bird and mostly what it did while i was with it.
Observation details
bird was spotted next to one of two lakes near a middle path between the lakes. it spooked and went towards a cluster of ducks on the edge of the lake. i followed and it went thru the group of ducks as they went into the lake. i followed approx. 6 ft away both thru the ducks and as this bird turned back towards the direction it/we had come and did a hop/skip cry jump as it landed 5 ft away among some ducks that had returned to the side of the water. all of this happened 1. directly next to a parking area for owen park and 2. with two friends/witnesses to the bird being there and me taking its picture. one witness commented at that time ''that's the bird i saw on july 4" which was 4 days prior. she did not inform me of that until that time even though we communicate on email(i send her pictures i take on occasion of animals-not just birds in that one very small park, many in the swannanoa river which is the outline or one side boundary of that park). all of this visit took an hour and i left after getting perhaps 100 or slightly less shots with my camera. i am a photographer and i do shoot pics of birds, but other animals as well. if other pics are needed and it is for a good purpose ,i would glad to share. i have been in touch with some other, mostly newspaper related birders, one of which put this or another shot i sent of this bird, onto carolina bird club. he also said, i thought, that he would put this bird on ebird, but did not. i have also been in touch email wise with dana bryan in tallahassee......he could not tell its sex but thought it not 'a first year bird'.i had viewed the ebird sightings and knew that near greenville, s.c. was the nearest and that this was the first n.c.mountain bird. i simply want people to know the range of the bird into this area.
