Media notes
side view of actively foraging Virginia Rail peering into the water
Observation details
One adult very actively foraging, feeding at least 4 fuzzy black young; second unseen adult heard vocalizing farther away. Foraging adult was darting about chasing small fish, which it would deliver to the young (who were mostly staying hidden in the vegetation). Though small, the fish looked pretty big to feed to the young once we finally got to see how tiny the young were. Video of adult foraging posted here: https://flic.kr/p/2gp1xAK Another video, in which I tried to follow adult as it delivered food posted at link below: though very shaky, it does capture the moment just after the feeding when the 4 young scatter from behind the clump of vegetation where the feeding took place. Just after that there's also a single instance of a loud nasal 'skeep' call the adult gave fairly regularly as it foraged (just not during the time I shot the other video): https://www.flickr.com/gp/98973699@N03/7c4n1A
