Observation details
***Amazing views! Black hawk with white tail bands, this bird was missing one of its primaries (before it crashed into a tree). I first noticed this dark hawk soaring while I was on the catwalk because I heard the raucous alarms of Purple Martins, who weren’t fooled by the turkey vulture disguise. I watched and photographed the bird for maybe 2 or 3 minutes before It swooped down incredibly fast on a WWDO. It was briefly stuck in a tree with the dove in its talons until it came down onto a horizontal limb and stared plucking its catch. I then was able to watch it as it plucked all the feathers, and ate the dove. All of this was visible from my vantage point on the catwalk. Later I was able to get closer views.
