First segment: First pair of singing males recorded at 5:20 a.m. EDT. The 2nd segment was at 5:42 a.m. with the bird only 5 metres above me in a small maple.
Observation details
Counted 8 singing males in a loose colony starting near the pin location and continuing up the heritage trail hardwoods. Two females (probably) were seen checking nest sites high in maples and aspens; red and white pine and eastern hemlock also present. This colony has had a presence in this same area since at least 2004. Recorded 4 separate groupings, some interacting with agitated 'whit' calls.
