Observation details
Gorgeous male found in the "hot" willow/toyon across from the Salty Crab. Observed well at close range. It had a dark cap, bright yellow neck and front of face, with a large burnt orange patch below and behind the eye. The eye was dark with a dark line through it. The throat also had a small burnt orange patch with dark streaking over it. The dark streaks started it the throat and extended down the chest and became thicker on the flanks. The chest, belly and sides were bright yellow below the dark streaks. The back was green, about half covered with messy dark chevrons, forming a streaked black and green appearance. The wings were black and green, with a large white patch in the coverts. The undertail was white with a dark tip. The bill was medium in length (among warblers), sharply pointed, and slightly decurved. The legs were black. It busily foraged throughout the toyon and willow, occasionally flying across the street to the large pine outside the transportation building.
